My Mouse Diary

11:25 PM 1/30/00

Well.. It has certainly been a while. I have about 10 adult mice. 5 white ones and 5 multi colored ones, Champagne has had 12 babies, who are all looking healthy (as healthy as the little red translucent dudes can look anyway). But all is going well so far, she has been looking after them for about 2 days now, and hasent killed any of them which is very good.

One of the white mice also had babies a few days ago, they were totally unexpected, and they died as a consiquence. Which sux, but I will be better prepared next time hopefully. Psycho is also pregnant, and has doubled in size over the past few days. She is getting ready for them in her own private box.

The others are all playing with each other, happily... most of the timel. Almost all of them will eat shapes (BBQ shapes, crackers) from my hand. They love them!

I have just gotten up. Looked in on the furry little dudes, and noticed that there little chineese food container, where there all sleeping is all fogged up. How Cute...

Anyway Last night I have Tawny a wash as she was not smelling the best. I know its probably not a good idea but she really needed it. I put on the rubber gloves as I know that it would not make her happy. And sure enough she was nipping the gloves and trying to kick me out of the way. But i managed to wash her, and now she smells much nicer. After drying her all off, she crawled back in with all the other mice, and Pinky started grooming her.

Well... yep im still up! Here are the names and specs of my current mice. As i havent yet listed them.

My 1st 2 mice which i have now had for about 2 months now are called psycho and dopy, there both black and white females, and both still very timid.

Then a few weeks later I got Champagne, she was... and still is a very nervous and jumpy mouse. She has some strange disease, and both of her back feet got infected and are now just stumps. Its not pretty to look at. But i didns see the need to put her down as she is getting around fine and still seems healthy and happy apart from the feet.

Mousies! Then I bought 2 white mice, they both looked identical, except for the fact that one was slightly fatter than the other. One of which broke her back when she escaped from the cage, and leaped off the washing machine where the cage was sitting. So I had to put her out of her misery, I only had her for a couple of days, so it was quite sad. But the other white mouse is going quite well at the moment.

The next mousie i got was a white male, whom i got a seperate cage for (for obvious reasons ;). Just a plain old white mouse. and I am now breadding him with Dopy, so there will be a whole lot of black and white little mosies around the place soon!

And finally (for the moment), The latest mouse that i have bought is a orange and grey mouse, who is terribly timid at the moment. Her name is Torny.

And now i definately seem to be noticing a distinct smell coming from the bathroom. It wasent so bad when i just had the 2 females but I guess I will just have to live with it =)

Last night Dopy decided that she didnt like her new home, in a plastic tub and she decided to chew her way out of it. It all started when i had taken there home out into the loungeroom where i take them everynight. The tub is quite thick plastic so i didnt think that it would be possible for her (or him) to chew there way out. But when my girlfriend, went out to put the mice back in the bathroom and goto bed, she found that there was a black and white mouse running under her feet racing back and forth between our bedroom and the loungeroom, I was still asleep and didnt know about what happened until the morning. But after about 1/2 an hour she caught dopy. and put her back in her cage! so I have taped up the hole, and am leaving there box in the laundry troff from now on.

Also last night as i was walking past the pet shop i noticed a nice orange and grey mouse, that I now own =). She is 'very' timid. and actually bit me as I was putting her in the cage with the other female mice. But im sure that when she gets used to her new home that she will hopefully settle down. At the moment she is just running on the wheel almost all the time, and when she isnt she just sits there on the wheel squeaking when ever another mouse tries to get on it. So it seeems that she has claimed the wheel for her self.

No sign yet of Dopy being pregnant, but its only been 3 days =). She is still spending most of her time hiding away in her nest at the, I have seen her eating quite a few times but she doesent seem to be playful at all anymore.

Day / Night 1

Introduced White Male mouse (aka - Brain or Balls) to Brown and White Female Mouse (aka - Dopy). All seems to be going well, white mouse is timid as to be expected for its fist day in its new home. They sniffed at each other a little bit at the start and now seem to be ignoring each other. At the moment, Dopy is sleeping in her nest box, and the white mouse is fussing around with the torn up paper, putting it in the nest box with dopy. He looks very cute running back and forward with bits of paper in his mouth. If I stick my head too close to the cage, he quickly hides. Still getting used to his new surroundings he sniffs all the time, and likes to hide under the water bowl.
